About us

Amal Hayat is an independent counseling center offering anonymous and free counseling to young people who are on their way in and out of radicalization. We do this to help them create a better future. The association consists of various professional professionals who have extensive experience in social work.

Amal Hayat has existed since 2016, where the association’s spokesman, Katina Ali Rasmussen, founded the association in Denmark after the German sister organization, Hayat-Deutschland, represented. Hayat-Deutschland was founded in 2011.

Katina Ali Rasmussen started “Amal” because, through her work as an integration consultant in vulnerable residential areas in Copenhagen, she has become acquainted with several young men and women in Denmark who choose to travel to the Middle East and join extreme and radicalized environments. Here she tried to help a young woman who was heading for Syria to become a Syrian war. Katina could find that there were no Danish organizations, where young people like her and relatives could address anonymously. In her research, Katina found the German association Hayat-Deutschland and contacted them, and soon they started a collaboration, and Katina founded the Danish version of the association.

The name Amal means “hope” or “future” in Arabic, and we know that there is “hope for a better future” for young people who are going to be radicalized if they get the right help and advice in time.

Amal Hayat works out of the conviction that best helps young people and their relatives by avoiding meeting them with contempt or by pointing fingers. We can only combat radicalization and extremism by offering them the right help in terms of employment, education and housing.
